Venus Tonight: Evening/Morning Star Schedule & Crescent Phase
Calculating live Venus position for your location…
Why Venus Shows Phases Like the Moon
Because Venus orbits closer to the Sun than Earth does, it never strays more than 47° from the Sun in our sky. You will always see it either in the western sky after sunset (the "Evening Star") or in the eastern sky before sunrise (the "Morning Star"). Through a telescope at 60x to 120x, Venus cycles from a small gibbous disk on the far side of the Sun to a large, dramatic thin crescent when passing between Earth and the Sun.
